Case 3

Primary human bile acid are colic acid and

chenodeoxycholic acid
Bile acid are the major catabolic product of
cholesterol.bile acid conjugated with taurine or
glycine to form bile salt
Bile salt:solubilizing water insoluble lipid
secreted by heparocyte into bile and solubilizing
dietary lipid within gut lumen
10-20 % of secreted bile salts are deconjugated
in intestine by bacterial action
Cholestatic condition which is result from
hepatocellular dysfunction or intrahepatic or
extrahepatic biliary obstruction
Characteristic laboratory finding is elevated
serum alkaline phosphatase, enzyme present in bile
duct epithelium and in canalicular membrane
hepatocyte that is released into circulation because
of detergent action of retained bile salts on
hepatocyte membrane
Gamma glutamil transpeptidase is also
released into circulation, elevated level of reflect
detergent action of bile salt in luminal space of bile
canaliculus on apical membrane of hepatocyte and
bile duct epithelial cells with solubilization of these
membrane
Morphology of cholestasis
-Accumulation bile pigment within hepatic parenchyma
