Every news story needs to have a Lead Sentence. This lead sentence, or just Lead for short, should
answer as many of the 5 Ws as possible within a single sentence or two, and still grab your readers
attention. It gives the reader a (very) quick summary of what they are about to read, and what to expect
when they read. Each of the 5 Ws can produce and/or answer many different questions each, so the lead
sentence needs to spit out only the very basic facts of the story; the details will come later in the body of
the story/article.
