Reflection

From writing this paper, I learned how difficult it was to make the paper flow with two different
writers. Each writer had their own unique style, and in the rough draft it was very noticeable. I also
learned a lot about the material itself from doing research into the topic. I learned that discourse
communities are a wide number of people who have common value, specific terminology understood
among the group, and activities shared among the group. Lastly, I learned that I wrote as I spoke which
made the paper more informal in my first few drafts. I had to cut off a few words, and replace certain
words used.

From revising the paper I learned that I continuously made many simple mistakes. Some of those
mistakes include writing redundant sentences. I also added extra words that were not needed in my
paper. I found that I included many intensifiers such as so, and very. Initially the paper was out of order.
So, I separated the chunks of writing into separate paragraphs according to the discourse community
criteria. I included transitional phrases to create a sense of order. Also I learned that in formal papers
first person is not acceptable. Lastly, I learned that contractions were not supposed to be used in
papers.
