Original Work Proposal

For my original work, I plan to outline a surgical procedure to gain more insight on my
field. This includes learning all the procedures, materials required, and effects of a specific
surgical procedure. The procedure will most likely be centered on pancreatic cancer, or some sort
of gastrointestinal tumor removal. I will have to do extensive research on this topic and learn all
the terminology to do this.
First I will have to learn all the medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology of the
region and the surrounding region. I will then have to find medical reports from credible sources
and use those to learn all the components of the surgery (materials, procedures, effects,
complications, etc.). Hopefully my mentor can give me some knowledge on this procedure as
well.
By doing this, I will learn all the background information about the region of the body I
plan to look farther into, and this research will help with my final product. Although the idea is
vague right now, I plan to find a way to make a certain surgical procedure less invasive or more
effective and possibly write a report on my findings for my final product. By completing this
original work, I will have a better idea on what I need to do and what my options are.
