The Lesson Structure: Activities

Students will be lead through a series of examples of multiplying and
dividing numbers in scientific notation and putting their calculations in
proper scientific form. Each example will then have a follow up problem,
similar to each example, using an interactive assessment tool Nearpod to
check their understanding. Students will use iPad devices to relay their
answer to each problem.

Monitor/Feedback
Instruct students to write scientific
notation information to use as a
guide through the lesson
Give small demonstration of how
to answer Nearpod questions
before the first question begins
Instruct students to write the
examples in their notebooks and
the work for each Nearpod
question
Have each Nearpod question on
display on the projector screen

Closing/Assessment
After the class has completed the various examples and questions
through Nearpod, they will be shown their class results as a whole and
what areas they need to work on.

Display the class results on the

projector for the group to see how
well they did
Students will be informally
assessed after completion of each
question

Homework
Students will be assigned 5 problems similar to the problems reviewed in
class to complete on their own individually.

Choose problems that students

need improvement on for
homework along with preselected
problems
Students will be formally assessed
on the completion of the
homework problems.

Self Evaluation of the Lesson

After completing this lesson, I will be able to see where student understanding is on scientific notation, and my own
assessment of teaching the lesson through the data generated from Nearpod.
