Positive Classroom Community Project Name __________________________

For this project, you will research ideas on ways to create a classroom community (see
Chapter 5 in First Class Teacher.) You will work collaboratively in a group and will develop
and conduct an activity that promotes a sense of community and trust in the classroom. You
will also create a diagram of the perfect classroom setup for your age group. Create a 2
page handout describing the following: practical ways you will make your future classroom
safe and productive for the children, and how learning, equity, and excellence will be
fostered. Include instructions for your activity. Professional journal articles and Internet sites
are also acceptable resources. Provide a minimum of 2 resources in addition to your
textbook.

3. A short summary of your ideal environment and how learning, equity, and

other things in the classroom. Draw or create online a layout of the ideal
classroom for your age group and attach AFTER the paper.
4. Your activity including title, the grade level and class (math, science, etc if it is
high school or middle school) materials needed, a copy of any handout specific to
the activity (if there is one and that would make 3 pages, but is not necessary),
one or two objectives, and detailed directions.
