Environmental Health and Safety Reflection

Assignments 1-7
As part of my Environmental Health and Safety Senior course we were
required to attend several field trips to on campus and off-campus waste and
environmental facilities. Of these facilities, I wrote five separate reports about the
facility and what each facility withheld. These reports were written on Biological
Waste, Industrial Waste Water Treatment Plant, The Waste Water Treatment Plant,
Utility Plant, and the Hazardous Waste Plant. For each site the requirement was to
find and learn the regulations associated with each site. On each visit pictures were
taken and labeled as a part of each process. The EPA, OSHA, and University
regulations along with the monitoring of each site were also noted in the reports.
These reports taught me how to format and write in technical form. This allows for
anyone who would come across the report to read and be able to follow along with
the report if they went to the site as well. Detailed processes of each site were done
in order of steps. If someone was to read my report they could find out where the
site was, who led the tour of site, know what the site looked like, the processes done
at the site, any pollutions onsite, and the regulations followed by the site. Most of the
tours were given on the campus ran facilities. By doing these reports it enlightened
me on all of the different types of waste and facilities required for them. Before, I
could not have told someone where the waste actually went and how it was sorted
however, now I can. I can now reference my reports and show anyone where I found
my information. The assignment also required a comparison where I would find
another company similar that may have been for an industry to compare their

regulations and processes to the facility visited to find the differences. The last two
assignments were group projects. I worked with two other students in my
environmental class as we researched Blood Borne Pathogens and constructed a
power point as if we were EHS professionals. (As seen in Assignment number 6).
We presented a twenty-minute presentation convincing other EHS professionals on
the importance of the Blood Borne Pathogen training that should be implemented in
the facility. By doing this assignment and much research I learned the trainings,
regulations, and consequences of not complying with the OSHA regulations
concerning Blood borne pathogens according to the OSHA factsheet. In Assignment
7, we made a video on HAZWOPER or Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency
Response Standards. In the video we researched and discussed almost every aspect
of what HAZWOPER such as the who, what, when, where and why we need it. Feel
free to watch the video and view my coursework provided to see in more depth of
each assignment. Each assignment was submitted to Dr.Wilkinson and feedback was
provided.

College/Internship Course Work Reflection

Assignments 8-12

The remaining assignments are from my Biology 112 laboratory class and my
China study abroad courses done in China. These last five assignments were written
for a grade in the courses I took through Texas A&M. The first two assignments were
the Animal Diversity report and The Cardiopulmonary Function Lab abstract. Along
with the Animal Diversity report we were required to learn and construct phylogeny
tree for the animals as they evolved on land. An excel page was also created as a
table to explain the traits of each animal along the taxonomic levels of evolution.
This assignment required much time and research. I did receive a B on the
assignment because of the difficulty. So many things are changing that it made it
hard to find the most current right information. The purpose of this assignment was
to learn how animals evolved into what we know them to be today and this is also
what we learned by completing the assignment. The Cardiopulmonary assignment
was a test in lab where we tested our hypothesis on the effects of gender and
exercise on cardiopulmonary functions. Actual healthcare equipment as listed in the
assignment was used. We learned that gender and exercise does in fact affect the
cardiopulmonary functions. This is because the heart rate of each student is raised
with physical activity. After the data was recorded we could then disapprove our
null hypothesis. The other three assignments, which also include reflections, were
done as part of my study abroad experience in China. My BESC course led by

Dr.Ebbole required reflections on each visit too various colleges. These reflections
required me to look back on each and everything we did in China and ask myself
what I learned. We visited a Bee college, studied the History of Tea in China, and
visited a Rice farm in China. We also had to construct a sample SOP (Standard
Operating Procedure) for a small body of water found anywhere on our near the
campus. By doing this assignment I learned how to formulate an SOP and change
them to my particulates. I also learned the different equipments associated with
different wastewater testing. Upon my return from China, I learned and knew their
environmental issues, government formation, language, about GMOs and culture
associated with the Chinese. Traditions. These last three assignments are a peak into
my study abroad experience in China.
