Clinton Global Initiative Raises $600 Million: Announces

New Meeting In Marrakech

NEW YORK- September 21st-24th/ The CGI held its 10th annual meeting under the
theme, Reimagining Impact, which seeks to help members explore how they measure
and attain goals to help solve the problems of the globe. Speakers of the events
included Secretary Hilary Clinton, President Barack Obama, and of course, President
Bill Clinton.
This meeting helped to add to the already 2,900 existing commitments in its portfolio.
Topics that were discussed include Equality for Girls and Women, Education, and
Climate Change.
Secretary Clinton announced the Collaborative for Harnessing Ambition and Resources
for Girls Education. This establishment contributes $600 million to reach 14 million
girls over five years. The collaborative aims to increase attendance of girls in primary
and secondary schools, to make schools more secure, and to support girls
employment.
The Clintons also announced the upcoming Middle East and Africa Initiative, coming in
Spring 2015, which will focus on economic development in the region. The Middle East
and Africa have a youthful workforce, fast-growing economies, untapped natural
resources, and enormous potential to thrive in the coming years," said President
Clinton.
The closing talks also called for action from the community regarding water scarcity
and the Ebola crisis.
