1. a. harsh inflexibility in opinion, temper, or judgment
b. an act or instance of strictness, severity, or cruelty 2. a tremor caused by a chill 3. a condition that makes life difficult, challenging, or uncomfortable; especially 4. strict precision : exactness 5 obsolete In my opinion, the third definition is the most accurate descriptor for the course because it indicates the need for discomfort and challenge. In the past, my English classes havent been very challenging. The teachers oftentimes did a poor job of keeping the students accountable by not checking assignments or being very lazy in regards to the composition of the tasks. I believe that in order to master something, a challenge is absolutely necessary. I find it impossible to get better at something that you already find easy. This class couldnt be considered a legitimate college course if there wasnt a lot of effort required to receive an A.
