FERNANDO LAVERDE

ENC 1101
JOURNAL: Porter
Intertextuality is the thought of words and ideas coming from other words that may not have
been written down, or added to the writing. Intertextuality means there is always a trace of where the
thoughts came from, whether or not they are written. My idea and understanding of intertextuality has
not changed. After reading the article, I still have a strong understanding that intertextuality is the trace
of other words and ideas.

No, I don't agree with Porter, that the web of text makes people less important. I believe that
our ideas and writings come from other ideas we've learned. I think that without having the intertext of
the web, it would cut down on the ideas we base our writing off of.

Porter calls the idea of an autonomous writer romantic, because it means free. Autonomous is
being an independent creator, and the idea of being romantic comes from being free, and independent.

Prior to reading this paper, I never understood that writings were related through their
intertext. I've never realized that peer editing was not the only way to enable yourself of improving your
writing, but rather learning and basing your thoughts and ideas off of traces of others words.

Porters article does show intertextuality. The learning and facts of his papers had to of come
from the words and traces of others. He reflects that he pulled facts and teachings from other authors,
and writers to create an article.

The problem with Porter imagining writing as, "individual, isolated, and heroic" is that many
writings come from traces of more than more author. Creating a writing comes from many different
ideas to create a thought or story, and generally consist of more than individuality.
