TExES Competencies

Competency 007: The teacher understands and applies principles and strategies for
communicating effectively in varied teaching and learning contexts.
Competency 008: The teacher provides appropriate instruction that actively engages students in
the learning process.
o When teaching the standard curriculum, the teacher needs to incorporate ways to keep
the students interested by grabbing their attention with fun and engaging lessons.

Competency 011: The teacher understands the importance of family involvement in childrens
education and knows how to interact and communicate effectively with parents.
o The teacher needs to be able to communicate with the children as well as the parents.
The parents will be more involved in the children's schoolwork if they have a good
relationship with the student's teacher.
Competency 012: The teacher enhances professional knowledge and skills by effectively
interacting with other members of the professional community and participating in various
types of professional activities.
o By building relationships with other teachers or by going to teaching seminars, the
teacher can learn many new things or better ways that they could be teaching their
class that they could not have known without the help of professional friends or
mentors in their school.
Competency 013: The teacher understands and adheres to the legal and ethical requirements
for educators and is knowledgeable of the structure of education in Texas.
o The teacher needs to understand that there are many legal requirements when dealing
with children and other teachers. They need to be knowledgeable of these regulations
and abide by them strongly.
