Introduction: People think theyre resting and powering down every time they sleep but this
conventional way of thinking is far from the truth, according to scientists.

II.

Scientists are now revealing the real story behind whats really happening with the brain
every time people sleep.
A. Cells work in synchrony, data processors sort through flooded information, the brain
checks on itself to ensure the balance of all of its components, and cleaners sweep out
toxic detritus.
B. Getting the recommended hours of sleep is the remedy in restoring the human body
and brain: it can increase cognitive skills, and also lower the risk of acquiring
diseases such as cancer and osteoporosis.
C. Sleep only works if we get enough of it which is why scientists are making the case
that it really matters much more than we think

III.

Poor sleep habits can lead to people getting sick and can affect their daily tasks.
A. Experts say sleep is the only time the brain can catch its breath and if it doesnt, it
may drown in its biological debris.
B. According to Dr. Veasey, sleep gets in the way when people only want to push the
system and to get the most of our lives.
C. Dr. Veasey learned that if the brain cells dont get their needed break every night,
they will eventually collapse.
D. The research suggests that if we dont get enough sleep, the brain will start to look
like that of a much older person.
E. Family, financial, or job related problems doesnt always cause chronic sleep
restriction, but it is the way we live now, with all the technological development
going on, that causes a disruption in our internal clocks.
