College Reading Reflection
This first semester in college is definitely one to remember and learn from. In College
One, We were required to do RRJs and these are reading reflection journals. Looking back on
these assignments, they were actually very helpful and require you too critically evaluate what
you had read. This process helps you to remember what you had read and also connect with the
readings because you understand it better after the RRJ. Because of this better understanding of
the book, I was personally able to make more connections to the reading. For example, I had
grown a strong dislike for the character Manny Jr. because he was such a hustler and an overall
loser. Another activity we would do was the connection notes. These notes would be on a piece
of paper and on one half was the quote of what you read heard or saw and then on the other half
was the connection it made to you. These were also very helpful to me, because it forced me to
really focus on the activity we were doing. I can still remember a lot of the videos and readings
because we made these notes along with them.
Outside of college one I had to read a lot in my English class as well. I found that
annotating and doing the connection notes helped me understand those readings better too. I
struggle with remembering what I read so often, I always have to go back and reread things
because I find myself being distracted. In English we read The Kite Runner and I used so much

annotating and connection notes so that I deeply understood what I had been reading. These
tricks I learned from College One have helped me succeed in other academic classes and overall
improved my reading skills.
