ELD 376

Science Lesson 1

1. Big Idea: Soil is formed through the physical processes of weathering and erosion.
2. Graphic organizer:

3. Objectives:

Students will analyze the 3 main rock types: sedimentary, igneous, and
metamorphic by reading informational texts and then create a graphic organizer.

Students will explain in a paragraph how weathering causes boulders to break

down overtime into soil.

Students will formulate a hypothesis about how the different types of erosion
(wind, water, and ice) affect how soil is moved through a simulation.

4. Assessments:

Students create a graphic organizer to compare and contrast the 3 main rock types
sedimentary, igneous, and metamorphic.

Students create a model to show how boulders break down overtime into soil.

Students test their hypotheses by conducting an experiment to compare and

contrast how erosion of wind, water, and ice affect the movement of soil.
