Specific Objective: Students will participate in a relay race during which each
team will assemble a plate full of necessary nutrient flashcards.
Concomitant Objective: Students will learn what constitutes a well-balanced meal
and practice assembling a plate.

Transition: Students will be asked to form a circle.

Set Induction: I will tell students about my love for


popcorn. It is my most favorite snack, but is it okay for
me to eat popcorn for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?

Learnable Piece: In order for a meal to nourish a body,


it must have a fruit, a vegetable, a protein, dairy, and
some grains.

Presentation of New Material/Directions: A member


from each team will run to the opposite end of the gym,
where they will choose a food flashcard to place on their
team's plate. The next team member does the same but
chooses a food from a different food group to bring back
to the plate. This continues until each plate has every
nutrient.
Transition: Students will count off by 5's and line up in
those groups on the green line.

Activity: The activity itself will use only half of the gym.
Once a team has a completed plate, its members sit
down. The activity ends when all teams have a
completed plate.
