LED LIGHTS

TIMELINE
1907- A report from Henry Round is made claiming light was emitted by
a crystal detector (an organic material). In the same year he published
his report in the Electric World journal. When he found the light
emitted he was originally working in another project (he forgot after his
discovery).
1921- The Russian physicist, Oleg Lossew, observes again about the
Round Effect.
1927- Oleg Losev notices that when an electrical current is passed by
silicon carbide crystal diode (used in radios) it glows.
1935- Georges Destriau names his findings of light emitting zinc sulfide
Lossew Light.
1939- Zoltan Bay and Gyorgy Szigeti patent the silicon carbide
electroluminescent lighting device.
1951- William Shockley files a patent for infrared LED.
1952- Kurt Lehovec applies for a patent of visible LED lights.
1958- From a LED Antimonde/ Germanium alloy Rubin Braunstein and
Egon Loebner patent a green LED.
1962- Nick Holonyak creates the first visible-spectrum LED light at
General Electrics lab, New York.
1964- IBM is the first company to use LED lights in a mainframe
computers circuit board.
1968- Hewlett-Packard uses LED lights in their first hand-held
calculators.
1971- New LED light invented by Jaqceus Pankove.
1972- First yellow LED light invented by M. Georges Craford, he
accomplished it by improving the red and orange LEDS brightness.

LED LIGHTS
1976- First high-efficiency LED light for fiber telecommunications
invented by Tom Pearsall.
1993- High-brightness blue LED light invented by Shuji Nakamura.
1995- The first white LED light is launched into market after being
invented two years ago.
2006- Shuji Nakamura wins Millennium Technology Prize for developing
the white LED light.
2007- Italian village of Torraca is the first city with LED lights
illuminating system.
2008- Audi is the first car company to fully equip their cars with LED
lights.
2010- New types of LEDS are being experimented, they have a specific
color and 250 luminous efficiency. OLED is considered futuristic
technology.
