Type of valve
Test progression
Fillthe valve cavity including, # appropriate, the bonnet cavity wih the test fd
Move the obturator to the closed position. Open ene valve pert for leakage observation,
Apply the test prossure specified in 4.12 and maintain the test prossure for the test duration
‘Spectfioe in Table 2
Determine the leakage rate.
Repeat the procedure for the other valve port
‘See NOTE 1
ave the ablurator to the closed position
Fill the upstream valve cavity with the teat fluid
J Apply the test pressure specified in 4.12 In the dlraction to unseat the obturator, and maintain
{he teat pressure for the teat curation apecttiod in Table 2
Determine the leakage rate.
Filrthe valve cavity with the test fuid.
Move the obturator to the closed position. Open ene valve pert for leakage observation.
Apply the test pressure specified in 4.12 in the direction producing the most adverse disc
Saling condition, and maintan the test pressure for the test duration specified in Table 2
Determine the leakage rate.
Repeat the procedure for the other valve port
‘Soe NOTE 2
Fill the downstream valve cavily (the oblurator boing in the lowed postion) inclading,
appropriato, the cover cavity with the tost Mui
Apply the test pressure specified in 4.12 in the direction tending to close the obturator, and
maintan the tost pressure fer the tost duration spocitied in Table 2.
Detormine the loakage rate.
‘Move the abturator to the closed position
Fillone valve port wath the teat uid.
Apply the teat pressure specified in 4.12 and maintain the test pressure for the teat duration
‘spociiod in Table 2
Determine the leakage rate through a tapped opening between the seats,
Repeat tre procedure for the other valve port
See NOTE 3.
‘Move the obturator to the closed positon:
Fillthe cavity opposite to that shown by the uniciractional flow indictor marked on the valve for
normal flow cirection with the test fuic.
[Apply the test prasaure specified in 4.12 In the dlraction tending to close the obturator, and
mmaintan the test pressure for the test duration specified in Table 2
Determine the leakage rate.

NOTE 1 The leakage rates only apply when dscharging tet fluid to the atmosphere,
NOTE 2 The closure leakage rate that applies is ether that idenified in a valve product standard or a laakage rate identified in @
purchasers valve procurement purchase order that is ore singe than that specified in the product stand
Note 3 The meaning of "No visually detectable leakage” is that there is no visible weeping or leakage in the form of drops or
votes
Note 4 There is a loosely defined comespondence between the leakage rate acceptance values of API 596 and the leakage
values Rate A as applied 1 DN < £0, Rate AA-Gas and Rate CC-Liqud for other than metal seated check valves and for check valves
Rate EE-Gas and Rate G-Ligud. Rates A,B, C, DE, F and G correspond fo values in EN 1265-1
