I developed respect and rapport in my classroom by taking into consideration all the

students personalities, likes and dislikes. I got to know each one of my students on a personal
and educational level. I made sure to listen when my students talked to me, built trust
between us and believed in every single one of my students. I always made sure that the
students and their parents felt welcomed once they entered the door. I did not tolerate
negative attitudes or bullying. I created and taught my students to have high expectations
and to push themselves to not only become better students but better human beings.
I encouraged a positive culture for learning by creating a behavior plan to celebrate
successful and positive behaviors in the classroom. Having an effective behavioral
management plan is crucial to creating respect and positive rapport in the classroom.
Without a strategic plan students would fall short of achieving set goals. Before taking over, I
observed that many students were not on task and were not focused on instruction. The
students were placed in groups of five to six students per group. When I completely took over
the classroom and teaching I made a few minor changes, such as the seating arrangement.
I rearranged the desk to rows. I made sure that all children could see and strategically
planned the seating arrangement. By doing this, I found the students respected not only the
teachers more but also the lessons being taught. The students become more aware of
classroom rules and started to raise their hand when they wanted to speak, gave eye
contact and got along better with their peers.
