‘SUBJECT: Usee Testing of Shark Identification Chart
AO? on go7
‘As you knoys recent dficlies wih the shark idgtigton chart neds tobe resolved. Our
{poup hhercloped new chet whih-w- bok il oats the rumen of the document
‘We conducted user testo determine Nether the document can actualy help someone identity
sharks and interviewed HE prticipahGlo Yea what pats of the document helped and those
‘whic cid not o could be beter. Ovelve eared tha the document worked well. Aer
explaining the test procedure, results, and conclusion we hope to collaborate with you to make
the final revisions tothe shark identification chat before its used
‘The testing procedure was simple. There was a total of seven testers whom were asked 10
identity sharks, Using testers with litle to no knowledge of shar j% gave them our chart to
identity the shark fom pictures on a PowerPoint presentation. Bbsaude tho picture its not
possible to determine the length ofthe shark we also gave them lengths of the shark in the
picture in the presentation. Is not evident which shark it was from the pictures inthe
presentation because color and physical features are not easily discemable. All sharks on the
‘chat had pictures in the presentation to see if there is any ambiguity between any two sharks.
‘We made note of several observations and concerns from the user.
Alter overseeing four different tests we found several aspects ofthe chart,
1) The chart gave the tester enough information to easity determine the shark
2) The testers quickly and correctly identified all sharks.
3.) Pictures ofthe chart were not useful
4) The descriptions were very usefl
Furthermore we found that the users prefered the layout of the chart, Tey also thought that it
‘vas helpful that similar sharks are together in the chart to effortlessly compare the two sharks in
‘question. The users were adamant about the use of the pictures and the descriptions. They said
the pictures hardly helped but the descriptions helped very much because it better defined theshark. Using this information, we have come up with some possible alterations tothe chart that
will likely make iteven more useful
‘Because the descriptions seemed to be the important part of the chart, the characteristics of the
shark should be listed,
ee seni et Xp, .
cme \ eo et
This should allow the user fo find which shark as those specific traits ata certain location on the
chart rather than search for them in paragraph form. We could also find better picture if we can
since the ones we have did not seem to help. The lage title could be erased because it adds no
utlty tothe chart so the chart could be expanded to use larger font and pictues, After applying
these change we believe the shark chart shouldbe very useful inthe fied,
