Statement of Scope for the Annotated Bibliography

For a machine to work, all of its parts need to be allowed to perform their duties. All the parts for
one machine work together to reach a common goal. However, as generations pass, there are
different machines that have different goals and need different parts. People are not so different
from machines in this sense. As generations pass, younger people will have different goals than
their parents, and will have different ways of obtaining these goals than them. However, many
parental figures stress their ways of life onto these newer generations of children, and their minds
and ideas conflict and cause stress for one another. Although many adult figures expect teens to
follow in their footsteps, teens have different needs and issues concerning them than their parents
and each need to accept and respect eachothers lifestyles.
This essay will explore the different ideas and needs between adolescents and adults, and the
effects overbearing parents have on teens. I will examine the importance of personal space and
independent learning, and the positive effects it can have on a childs future. I will also discuss on
how parents are often the main cause of stress in teens. I will further examine on how the many
recent generations all have different problems, opportunities, and ideas. Furthermore, I will
discuss the issues of teen stress and suicide and what things parents can do to help prevent these
actions, and help their children mature into mentally stable adults.

This selected bibliography includes sources that discuss differences, stress, and young adults
independence. In the Hill and Wolburg references, the differences between teens, adults, and
elderly people are discussed, showing each of the generations strengths and weaknesses. In the
Austin and Shapiro papers, they discuss the stresses that teens experience and how they and their
parents cope with it, and how they will try and improve it. The Pressure from Parents paper
discusses the difference between parents and their children, and how they have different ways to
deal with different problems. These sources provide examples of the differences between parents
and teens and the different ways their problems need to be dealt with.
