This I Believe
Many people have many different personal beliefs. You are raised by your parents a
certain way and carry over their beliefs, which they have taught you, over the course of time you
are with them, once you get out into the real world and experience your own difficulties you see
the world differently. There are many things I see a certain way and believe, but it does not have
to be your beliefs and how you see the world. I have so many different opinions and beliefs on
various topies but if I talked about all of them, we would be here forever. One topic very close to
my family and me is immigration,
‘One of the major topics tiiat come up a lot in the world we live in today is the whole
concept of immigration. Immigration is a very controversial subject in the United States because
most of the population is made up of immigrants. An immigrant is defined as a person who
‘comes to a country to take up permanent residence, When the word immigrant or immigration is
‘mentioned the first thought in everyone’s mind is Hispanics and how they jumped the wall that
separates the United States and Mexico or how they came over here in rafts. This topic is very
closely related to me because I am Hispanic and I can relate. I am all for immigration and even
though you may come to the United States illegally I believe why not?
Ido feel that most Americans are fighting for immigrants to leave the United States
because they are taking their jobs away from them but put yourself in their shoes, if you were
living where they lived and more importantly how they lived you would want the best for yourfamily. An example is the recent rioting in Venezuela and the communism in Cuba. In May
2014, protests erupted as the result of Venezuela's level of violence, corruption, and shortages of
basic food necessities and many believed it was caused by economic policies and strict prices
(Venezuela’s Agony). The president, Nicolas Maduro, has gotten less support from the civilians
and they are concerned how he is running the country and how the government responds to crisis
(Venezuela's Agony). During these protests two hundred and forty-three students were arrested
pre-dawn raids and this is when the police intervened and a total of forty-two people were killed
and murder has become a way of live (Venezuela's Agony).
{As you can see in the movie “The Book of Eli,” family is very important with the mother
and danghter, Claudia and Solara. The movie shows that Claudia would do anything to protect,
her daughter and wants the best for her when she is living with Camegie because she knows she
cannot provide for them (The Book of Eli). In this 2ase immigrants would do anything for their
family to have a better life like how Claudia puts up with Camegie’s rules and regulations and
listen to everything he says (The Book of Eli). Many immigrants come to America for a better
life because America is filled with opportunities ard freedom, which is why they call it “The
Land of Opportunity.”
Immigrants would do anything to getaway ‘rom where they know there is nothing but
ruthless things for them some might even say it is unbearable They would rather leave their
country and take not the best journey just to step on American soil and feel that sense of freedom
when they arrive even if they are sent back to their country. Their journey to get to the United
States is not the best part of their adventure itis probably the worst. They endure countless
things, and article named “An Immigrant’s Journey” talks about how immigrants pass the border.
Getty Images Photographer John Moore took the journey himself and traveled with otherimmigrants on freight trains called “Ia bestia” which means the beast (An Immigrants Journey,
Moore). On these trains he discovered you can get robbed or assaulted by gangs who run the tops
of the trains and you also have to be careful not to “all because you can lose a limb (An
Immigrants Joumey, Moore). During his journey a the immigrants that started with him in the
beginning didn’t finish with him in the end, he captures pictures of what they had to go through
and the expressions on their faces. On his trip he started in Guatemala and traveled the whole
way to the United States. Some of the obstacles they had to face were rafting across the Suchiate
River, climbing Guatemalan mountains, riding on top of “la bestia”, the inclement weather that
they can face, ducking while on top of the fieight trains when branches are in the way, they pass
through tunnels and jump over fences (An Immigrants Joumey, Moore”). The journey is not
simple and many people have lost their lives trying to get to the United States.
Tam not saying that I disagree with Americans when they say that immigrants should be
deported back to their native country. I do agree with Americans if immigrants are coming from
their native country and not following the laws of the United States. If they are disrupting our
nation and doing criminal activity they should be deported back to their country. We should take
in everyone who is willing to work and provide a tetter future for themselves and their family.
Lastly, I chose this topic because I know everyone already has decided on their stance on the
topic of immigration but I wanted to explain the di‘ferent things that the media does not tell you.
This topic is close to my family and my parents have influenced this belief in me because my
mother did come from a different country and she always tells me “If wouldn’t have came to
‘America we would be living like them, so appreciate what you have.” I also wanted to talk about
this topic because many people comment and say cistespectful things about immigrants but they
have no idea what they go through and just think that is just in movies; when I hear people whoare blind and do not understand the real story is when I am disrespected and shocked on how
little minded they are. I do not know if my belief or mind will change over time, I do not think so
because I already have the facts and information ard T am just spreading it around.Works Cited
