Columbus once said, by prevailing over all obstacles and distractions, one may

unfailingly arrive at his chose goal or destination. These words are followed by the Hess
Company as they also explore the world for new locations for oil.
Hess discovered and successfully drilled their seventh exploratory well off the shore of
Ghana in January of 2013. Hess has been successful in drilling time and cost-per-foot with
spending around 40 million dollars for the last three wells. They use a special drill called the
Stena Drillmax, which goes down in the ocean between 5,623 and 8,245 feet.
The company is currently working on an appraisal plan to the Ghanaian government for
the second quarter of 2013 due to their successes thus far and has already started working on predevelopment studies in those locations.
The Utica Shale areas of Guernsey Harrison, Jefferson, Belmont, and Noble counties are
other locations that Hess has in Ohio. In 2012, Hess drilled 12 wells. There is also a newly
opened regional office in Steubenville Ohio, which is where all of the coordinating takes place.
In 2013, the goal is to drill 30 more wells and continue on with making more appraisal activities.
Hess has been exploring new locations for years, and it is something they take very
seriously. The president of Hess stated, There is no way to expand if we just settle for what we
have. They will continue to move forward looking for more locations to drill wells.
