Reporting Officer: Marty Hart

Date: 12/1/2014
Prepared By: Rust Cohle

Incident: Habersham County Special Response Team conducted a drug raid at the Phonesavanh
residence at 2:00 am. Officers breached the front door with a ram, and deployed flash bang
grenades into the front room. Officers quickly secured the room, pinning down all the residents
and controlling the situation. The suspect was not in the residence.
Detail of Event: The SWAT team pulled up in their vans 100 meters from the target house at
1:50 am. After some quick surveillance of the house from the outside, the officers went to the
front door. At 1:57am, the officers breached the front door with a battering ram on the first
attempt. Officer Gomez immediately threw a flash bang grenade in the door and waited for it
to go off, then the team entered, guns drawn 3 seconds later. Officers Gomez and Schrader
secured a man and a woman, about age 30. The rest of the team did a sweep of the house and
gave the all clear. Suspect was not present in the house. Upon further inspection, the flash bang
grenade landed in a babys crib, severely injuring a toddler. Officer Gomez immediately called
for medical support, and the baby was rushed to the hospital.
Actions Taken: When it was discovered that the suspect was not here, we questioned the man
and woman about his whereabouts. They were distraught from the events and couldnt
communicate. Getting the baby medical attention was our first priority.
Summary: This was an unsuccessful drug raid. The suspect was found out to not be currently
living at the residence and a baby was horribly injured.
