Investigative Essay Reflection
I wrote my Research Investigative Essay on the movie Crash. When brainstorming on
what topic to choose, I was between two movies that are sports related; the movies were A
League of Their Own and Radio. I chose Crash for my paper because I am familiar with the
movie, and it raises a social issue of racism. At the beginning of my research, I had trouble
understanding what exactly we were supposed to do. I didnt want to end up writing too much
about the movie and not enough about racism itself.
I came across a few issues while writing my paper, because of how much information
there is out there on racism. Everett Librarys Database helped me narrow my search and find
credible articles on past cases of racism and racism around the country recently. A lot of the
information on the database was very interesting and I could easily incorporate it into my paper
along with the movie. I was also able to use recent cases where racism ended in fatalities in the
country. I realized that when I sat down and got to typing my essay, I ended up with a lot of
repetitions of a few phrases. I would use In the movieas shown in the movie in a single
sentence, which didnt make sense at all. My goal for this paper was to be able to get credible
information on my main key points on racism as it relates to the movie Crash. As a researcher, I
had to make sure I found objective information to include in my essay. Luckily that wasnt too
hard with the librarys database; it really helped me find the information I needed.
