NOMINATING BALLOT. You may propose up to three
different names, including your own, These will be
entered on a mastcr ballot to be returned to you for your
December 21, 1989 vote (within Report #2 to Members).
‘These names will be listed for your vote showing the
number of placements within categories 1. 2, & 3. Confi-
denally of the nominating process will be maintained by
the Institor. (At any time, “Board members may examine
all the files of the Academy maintained by the Institor.)
I nominate these members for election to the Board of
Governors 1990-92:

Academy Bylaws now state that the current Board of
Governors will serve until June 20, 1990. On June 21,
1990, the Board to be elected will be installed 1o serve a
two-year term ~ 6, 21. 90 to 6. 20. 92, - with the next
lection to be held at the end of 1991, for installation of a
new Board on 6. 21.92, to serve until 6. 20. 94, with
succeeding two-year terms. Board members may serve
more than one term, A new Board, in an organization
meeting, appoints its own officers.
FINANCES. The sole funds to date in the Academy
account (unexpended) are from the initial $10, "dues"
assessed all Charter Members. Our Bylaws state that in
addition to members’ fees, funds may be generated from:
Donations - Sales of Tiems - Meeting & Seminars - and
Licensing Agreements. In the Enrollment Flyer, it was
reported that two retail products were seeking to use the
‘Academy logo in promotion, but the first, a publisher, lost
his financing, and the second, a software programmer, has
yet to resolve his pricing, so the only “license” so faris
the American Crossword Federation's offer to make 2
donation to the Academy for each subscription from a
member. There is no doubt that the Academy endorsement
in time will prove to be a valuable marketing device for a
variety of products and uses, but until then, the Academy
will have 0 be self-supporting.
From carly in 1986, when the original Hall of Fame
‘Academy concept was first proposed-except for the
Founding Board of Governors sharing the costs of two
meetings in New York in 1988~all expenses up to the
prescat time have been bome by Institor.
Bylaws state that “No part of the net eamings of (the.
Academy) shall inure to the benefit of, or be distributable
1, a private individual, but the Academy is authorized to
provide reasonable compensation for services rendered and
to make payments and distributions in furtherance of |
‘corporate purposes... incidental to the Academy's pur-
poses.”” The question is, what, if any, shall be the Acad-
‘emy’s “dues” structure? Please let us have your opinions
for the guidance of the next Board. Please answer:
believe the Academy’s dues should be __none,
$___per year, or $__paid in advance
for each two-year period, 90-92, 92-94, 94-96, and on,
