Field Experience Reflection

The information that I have gained from the observations during my field experience is
vital in assisting me as a classroom teacher. I learned that when constructing my daily lesson
plans, I need to think through a variety of things before I choose my teaching strategy and
technology that I will use. I also gain knowledge on different ways to integrate different subject
areas as well as differentiated instruction and scaffolding. Using these strategies can better
accommodate diverse learning styles by catering to visual learners and facilitating learning at
different speeds. I also learned that students have the tendency to gravitate to books that interest
them and write about topics that they have background knowledge about. Students reading
demonstrates their best comprehension about things that are in their experiential and conceptual
backgrounds. Reading and writing enhances childrens language resources and enhances their
oral language capabilities. In order to enhance reading and writing while constructing meaning, a
teacher should: teach both reading and writing, introduce reading and writing from the earliest
grades, reflect the development nature of the reading and writing relationship in instruction.
They should also emphasize product and process knowledge in instruction, communication, and
teach reading and writing in a meaningful context.
Teachers should make reading and writing connections explicit. This means that students
should transfer what being learned into writing. Reading and writing can be simultaneously
learned with a specific purpose between writing and science, writing and social studies, and
writing and reading fictional stories. While reading, students begin to recognize grammatical
composition of sentence structure. Teaching reading is essential so that students are afforded the
opportunity to become strategic readers and lifelong learners.
