Lesson Objective

SOL 12: The student will investigate and understand the origin and evolution
of the atmosphere and the interrelationship of geologic processes,
biologic processes, and human activities on its composition and
dynamics.
VBO: Evolution, structure, and composition of the atmosphere
Describe the characteristics of each layer of the atmosphere (including
temperature, unusual characteristics, and percentage of gases).
Explain the importance of ozone in the upper atmosphere and the cause and
effect of its depletion (effects of chlorofluorocarbons).

Purpose of the lesson

The student will understand the different layers of the atmosphere and the
important characteristics of each layer.
1. Students will log in to their laptops and load up the website
www.prezi.com. Students will sign up for a free account and explore the
tools.
2. Students will view the teachers exemplar of a Prezi on the layers of the
atmosphere (they will have seen Prezis during class instruction).
3. Students will use www.prezi.com to create a presentation about the layers
of the atmosphere. They will follow the guidelines on the exemplar.

Assessment

The lesson plan for modeling digital age work is aligned with the ISTE Standards for teachers and
the TSIPs. The ISTE Standards for teachers under the standard for modeling digital age work and
learning. The teacher is demonstrating fluency and transferring knowledge as well as modeling and
facilitating effective use of current digital tools. The TSIPs are also being applied as the students use
technology to demonstrate knowledge of SOL information. The students are informed of the
information, must research additional information and they apply it in their own Prezi. They use an
example of a teachers Prezi that includes the information needed in their own presentation.
