Proposal for Green Paper:
Julia is a Heroine in Blue Moon Rising

For my final paper on Simon R. Greens novel Blue Moon Rising, I will be
discussing how Julia is a heroine in the novel. Women in novels are often depicted as
delicate flowers, resting at the feet of their lover or as cruel witches, but Julia is the
complete opposite of those archetypes. Princesses in novels are never seen rushing
into battle from the front line or not conforming into the rules of society. Julias
bravery, stubbornness, skills and strength are what makes her a heroine. She
refuses to be anyones prize or for to her seem weak. Many times through out the
novel, she shows and says that she would do anything for Rupert, the Unicorn or the
Dragon.
I chose this thesis, because I love how Julia breaks almost every stereotype
that her character is supposed to have. Weve been discussing about heroes and
heroism in class through out the semester and I would love to explore more into the
subject within Blue Moon Rising. I plan on using Between The Sexes Heroines Maybe,
But Not Heroic by Judith Finlayson, to compliment my claim as to why Julia is a
heroic heroine. Finlayson explains how heroines arent heroic, but it will help my
readers see why Julia is heroic since she doesnt fit into those archetypes.

I plan on introducing the topic of feminism and heroinism first, then leading
into the discussion about why Julia is a heroine. I will then go into the counter
argument about how Julia can be seen as un-heroic and conclude with the significant
impact Julia made within the society in the novel.
