Classroom Management reflection:

Two of the major challenges the author experienced this week were classroom control and time
management in relation to the delivery of the lesson. Petty (2009, p.7) indicates that the novice
teacher's ability to display their formal authority and confidence in the delivery of their lesson
plan along with a good subject knowledge and the development of a teacher student rapport
together with preparation for the class provide the framework for effective classroom
management. Likewise Walsh and Dolan (2009, p.30) illuminates that classroom management
possess the most challenge for the novice teacher. According to Jones (2001, p.5) the
development of a seating plan for the class is a valuable resource to familiarise oneself with the
students names and assist control the class. Likewise in consultation with the cooperating
teacher to identify those students who, when together can be instigators of disruption for the
class and hinder a productive learning session. Walsh and Dolan (2009, p.30) highlight that
teaching is a complicated endeavour and that schemes that work for one teacher may not
address the challenges faced by another teacher and therefore through reflection on the
teaching practice and how best to enhance student learning, methods of improvement can be
identified. Moreover, Walsh and Dolan (2009, p.31) state that each teacher moulds the
demands teaching brings according to their talents, disposition and character. Hence the author
developed a seating plan in consultation with the cooperating teacher. The author is constantly
evaluating the lesson plans to ensure a timely delivery prior to each lesson.
