Dear Ms.

Anderson
Thank you for welcoming me to your classroom! I hope to learn as much as possible from you and
helping in any way I can. I am grateful for the opportunity and for your own generosity in volunteering
your time and attention.
I am originally from Halifax, my family moved to Lethbridge when my mother secured a teaching
position at Agnes Davidson Elementary. I completed elementary at a francophone school, Lcole
Pavillon la Vrandrye. I continued at Gilbert Patterson Middle School, and completed the IB program at
Winston Churchill High School. I enrolled at the University of Lethbridge out of high school and earned a
Bachelor of Fine Arts. My chosen focus was metal sculpture, which I pursued after my degree with
summer courses at Red Deer College in welding and blacksmithing. I continue to produce work in my
own shop.
Soon after graduation I began working as a disabilities support worker; I feel this has helped form an
attitude and outlook that will be useful in teaching. Because of my background I have had many
opportunities through work to participate in the outreach program Stepping Away; a course offered
through the Lethbridge College. The program focuses on teaching trade skills such as carpentry, metal
fabrication and small engine repair. I found the experience of being able to impart skills and knowledge
that are important to me, extremely rewarding. With a little personalized help each of the students
mastered the tasks set to them; and as their confidence grew so did their interest. It was thrilling to see
the transformation in a group of students that previously seemed to have so little interest or motivation.
It was largely this experience that led me to pursue a career in teaching.
I am eager to begin and look forward to learning from the class and yourself. I was previously placed in a
grade 2 class in Ed. 2500 during May-June so it will be interesting to see a class at an earlier stage of the
year. I am also very excited at the prospect of gaining some experience in teaching subjects outside of
my major, though I would love to teach Art as well.
Sincerely,
Aidan OBrien
