Reflection of my knowledge related to the standard:
Throughout my courses and practicum experiences I have learned the importance of creating a positive learning environment. I will create a positive emotional environment through positive interactions and relationships with my students that are built on respect. During my courses I have learned that the most important element of the environment is to ensure that the children feel safe. Students will not be able to learn if they do not feel safe in their environment. The following artifact will demonstrate how I used Behavior Support Plan and implemented it with one of my students. In the beginning of this internship, I found that making a PBSP was very confusing and I did not really understand how this process would work. As I started the ABC observations, MASs, and interviews I noticed that this was a great tool to understand what the students I message is. This helped me realize that I needed to find other ways to help my struggling students. Throughout the year I was able to watch and document one of my students behaviors. At the end of the year, the staff and I were shocked to see that this student had made a complete turn around. PBSPs are very time consuming and it takes a lot of effort from all parties involved. I believe if we really want our struggling students to be successful we must be willing to do the hard work when no one else wants too.
