Vision Statement for Composition Portfolio

This portfolio represents the beginning of me thinking of myself as a potential teacher. It


stands as the foundation of my pedagogical approach and the philosophy I bring into the classroom.
I see this portfolio and its contents as the first step in the development of my classroom skills. This
is a resource that, while now a seedling, will grow as I become more adept and confident as a
teacher of writing and literary studies. As I work through the masters program at A&M San
Antonio and go on to obtain a PhD, I intend to continue to build upon the foundation established
here on these pages. This portfolio will track my progress at the head of a classroom as I developed
as a teacher, and mark my expanding knowledge of how to engage students and effectively imbue
them with the skills needed to be successful in any academic setting. While the format may
change, the medium may evolve, I intend to add ideas and assertions with each passing semester,
layering it with my epiphanies and realizations, deepening the portfolios significance so that it
tells a storya story that will allow me to look back and measure the growth of my abilities as a
teacher. After the class has ended and the grades returned, I will continue to add to its collection,
noting my successes and failures in the hopes that I will be able to use them to better the educational
experience and value my students get when they take one of my courses.
