Materials:

Two boxes
Legos
Pompom Balls
Kinetic Sand
Buttons
Pennies
Any other item

Description: Each child will place his or her hand in the box. I will ask the child to describe what
it feels like. I will also ask if they would like to guess what it is. I or another teacher will write
down the words the children are describing. (Dry eraser board). After a few children have felt
and touched I will pull out whats inside. Children will be using their imaginations.
Learning goal of this activity is stimulation vocabulary and to simulate language. The children
are using their touch senses to describe what the object is without using the sense of sight.
However they are using the sense of feel. The children will also be using their fine motor skills.
Accommodations: I have two children that cant stay still for periods at a time. Therefore I will
have them go first with the activity. After I will them have them stay close to the front to distract
them with the activity. I will continue to engage them with what might be in the box.
What ifs:
If some children are scared of whats in the box, I will inform them its nothing harmful
to them.
If someone says they dont like touching stuff I will offer gloves
Extension:
Day One: We can create our own boxes.
Day Two: We will find items around the classroom to place in the box.
Day Three: We will take turns trying to figure out whats in each box.
