Selection of right MIS Tech for Organization

U r setting up shop and need to take decisions on MIS systems to use. Your shop is going to have 3
offices that are geographically far (Kathmandu, Biratnagar and New Delhi). You are going to have
atleast 3 people per office employed in all the offices who will need to use the system that you select.
4 factors u r looking into:
Availability - important from the point of view that you want the system now. You do not want to
custom build the software.
Support and Licenses - important from the point that you will want to be flexible and not invest too
much on capital costs when you want to expand your operation.
Cost - Everybody is always looking for cheapest cost. You would want to look at not only the cost of
installation, but you would also want to look at Total Cost of Ownership.
Infrastructure will include hardware, network connectivity, etc.
Community - a strong community ensures longevity of the softwares that you buy. Also it helps in
finding support as and when required.

SFT2 - open source available as an on-line service
SFT3 - available as companion to another application
Support and Licenses
SFT1 - 1 year 24/7 support, buy support from then onwards.
SFT2 - Community support, 1 year paid support from different providers
SFT3 - community support, paid support for main application
Cost
SFT1 1 time 45000 for 1 seat. Each additional seat - 7000. Support per month 2000. First 1 yr support
in initial cost. Web based interface cost is 15000.
SFT2 - support cost is 4500 per month.
SFT3 main application 50000 for 5 seats. Each additional seat - 7500. support per month 2000.
Infrastructure
SFT1 - Desktop application, requires additional cost for web-based interface.
SFT2 - Cloud based application. Requires 24/7 Internet connection.
SFT3 - Web-based application that can run on local server.
Community
SFT1 - large corporate clients
SFT2 - SMEs and general users
SFT3 - small client base, but big enthusiasts
