Report. : Benefits of Partnership.. Successful Partnership Efforts. Importance’s of the Ministry.. ‘What is human traffickin Human trafficking statisties Solution. Conelusions, Appendix. Bibliography. ‘This report emphasizes the importance of partnership, specifically for a non-profit ‘organization and the reasons why it would be the best way for Eve's Angels to grow their ‘ministy. This report is focused on informing the founder of Eve's Angels and the Outreach Coordinator onthe benefits of partnership with other organizations within the community Recommendations for implementing partnerships and furthering Eve's Angels outreaches are given for consideration, “The mission of Eve's Angels since before its actual founding in 1999 has been to not only prevent, but reach women trapped in the bondage's of sexual slavery, also known as human trafficking. Their focus has been to minister the love of Christ to the women and help them realize their worth. Ther fist outreaches began in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They started a ‘weekly meeting that was focused around the Eve's Angels Bible Study book. Not long after, God pu on their hearts to begin doing outreaches in the strip clubs and massage parlors within the city ‘The small group began to head out into the strip clubs of Grand Rapids, Outreach Coordinator, Marissa Sheehy, says "we just hang out withthe gids there, We usually bing ceupeakes or something to share wit the ladies in the clubs" (Sheehy), They do this as a way to show love and to form relationships with the girls. They understand that strip clubs ao just the beginning of the world of the sex industry and many women find themselves in situations of| ‘human traficking or prostitution through the world of exotic dancing. However, with limited funding and an ever increasing need Eve's Angels has found themselves ina daly struggle to provide the care these women desperately need, They are also struggling with the taunting disappointment of knowing there are so many more women to reach, yet its just not feasible with their budget. With so many other organizations that share the same vision and passion, as well asthe body of Christ the limitations holding Eve's Angels back can and should be overcame. ‘Over the last five years I've have been fortunate enough to work with great organizations, ‘When our church decided that the best option to expand our ministry was to pariner with other churches it was amazing. Inthe last few years we have been able to help so many more families during the holidays and throughout the yeat: We have worked with Nicole Bromiley, founder of ‘one voice, to raise awareness about human trafficking within our local community and provide thousands of pairs of shoes for her Cambodia outreach. I know would that would not of been possible without the partnership between our organizations, ‘Implementing partnership with organizations within the Local community wil help Eve's ‘Angels continue to combat trafficking and reach women who otherwise may not be reached, Partnership will provided extra funds, more people to raise awareness, and share the plight of those working tirelessly to fight an evil that eannot be fought alone. Introduction ‘This report looks a the importance of group uch as Eve's Angels, the work that they do, and why partnership with similar organizations pertinent for future success and growth, Partnership is one ofthe key components contributing tothe success of any non-profit ‘organization. Furthermore, Christ heavily stressed the importance of partnership for the New ‘Testament church, In order to implement the principles of accountability and commitment to the local body of Christ, as defined in the New Testament and practiced in the early churches I urge ‘you to examine the information inthis report. I believe upon doing so, the need for formal partnership will become evident. Recommendations to establish partnerships that will lead to furthering the mission of combating human trafficking ae given for the founder of Eve's Anges and the outreach coordinators consideration Background Rescuing and regorigg victims of human trafficking, as well as preventing and raising awareness about the been the fous of Eve's Anges sine its founding in 1999. They” are rapidly becoming the answer for women trapped in the sex industry, The Christian not profit ‘organization ministers the word of Jesus Chast to women in the sex industey. They are an advocate against sex trafficking, as well as light that reaches into places of employment where sex is being sold. ‘They have a small staff that includes volunteers who respond to daily emails phone calls and messages with understanding, grace, realism and courage to take a step toward Jesus Christ, and recovery. They have astreet-ieam to educate and inspire women in the sex industry t0 ‘transform their lives. Eve's Angels gives a portion of ther proceeds directly to women coming ‘out ofthe industry who are in need of immediate housing, counseling, prayer, esbilitaton and resources to equip them for a new future, Problem Eve's Angels, like many other similar organizations, wor har to help victims of human trafficking. They also face the same obstacles. One common protleh is the lack of edueation and ‘awareness about the issue. If majority of the population is unaware ofthis injustice, combating it is very difficult, However, that along with some of the other obstacles groups such as Eve's ‘Angels face are not the mgin issue when it comes to setbacks in combating trafficking. Majaity of nodproits, in gen ays seem tobe battling the ngyor ending funding. issue. I fet, mos ofthe bumps these seats encounter citer stem tony are diet related toa lack of funding, Ata special event at United Nations Headquayers, President ofthe General Assembly declared that funding organizations that ret as {ey instrument to providing support Human trafficking hes no place"). Furthermore, Eve's Angels has been working towards providing more services to the ‘women, such as permanent housing. This, however isa major expense. The average cost of sunning and maintaining a small safe house for trafficking survivors is about $20,406 pee year According to Eve's Angels outreach coordinator, Marissa Sheehy, they are also looking into starting other outreaches. A street ministry, for one, is the main focus a this time. This will entail going out onthe stress to minister to those women who have gone beyond just dancing in the clubs, but are now trapped in the sad lifestyle of prostitution. "We want to be able to bring ‘them gift bags which contain personal hygiene products such as, travel size shampoo, conditioner, and toothpaste. Toothbrushes, tempons, gift, as well as a pocket sized bible, This is just one ofthe outreaches we hope to be able to do in the near future “C'Sheehy”) Inthe years sit Angels has started their ministry they have ministered to ‘numerous women and hefped them break out ofthe sex industry lifestyle. While this is great accomplishment, it also Teads to even greater frustration. Once they're out, where do we place them and how can we help them. When a women is eady to leave the industry its a very seary thing. Everything the women has ever known is being left behind: The pimp, that has provided, inan ironic way, safety, coworkers that are their support system, the world without alarm clocks, bright lights, loud muse, fast money, drugs, and aleohol, For someone who has be ‘Worl that i unlike what majority considers" it requires an abundance of support, emotionally and financially. While Eve's Angels has volunteers that are willing to be that emotional support, expectations have fallen rather short on the financial end. ‘These women Fequite a whole new life, depending on the particular situation. Every woman and her needs are different, but most require a safe place to lve, food, clothing, some type of treatment / rehabilitation program, opportunities to further education and/or lear a specific skill, or trade. Al ofthis requires finances. Benefits of Partnership, ‘Through personal experience and research I have discovered firsthand just how ‘beneficial partnership canbe. This year Antioch Community Church partnered with local college students in an effort to combat trafficking. They put together a Sk glow run to raise awareness and funds. Local Zumba instructors led runners in warm-ups before the race, a local band played ‘music, «focal paper took photos and advertised the event, and prizes were awarded to the top ‘three runners, The money raised helped to provide resources to further trafficking awareness, o focus on prevention, education, and aftercare, (“Sk”) iy Tye been the a ee at my church, The Church of the First Born, for five years area smajteGonproft, organization. Over the years we have partnered with othe 6s to help provide food, monies for bills, clothing, Chistes nl Thanks boxes, and other basic necessities. Many other nonprofits are willing to get involved, as they know the challenges that arise, Last year, I contacted The Church ofthe Nazavene and told them bout our Christmas outreach, They were more than happy to get involved. Throughout the year their congregation, as well as ous, brought in gifts, winter coats, hats and gloves, and pajamas forall different is and genders. We al also brought in canned food, turkeys, hams, frozen pies, ete. By Christ 31500 families received gifts forall of their children, a8 well asa complete Chrisknas inner. note sucessful prnersip endevor I've been fortunate cough 0 be apart of was working ith Nicole Bromley, founder f one voice. Partnerships are generally inexpensive and easily formed. The majority of time spent starting a partnership often focuses on developing the | partnership agreement. Ina pariership, each partner is equally invested inthe success of the partnership. Partnerships have the advantage of pooling resources to obtain capital, Partnering ‘with different organizations enables you to make connections and also share the burden of this sometimes overwhelming experience. Good partnership can and will reap the benefits of being able to utilize the strengths, resources and expertise of each partner. | ion for her ti Importanee’s of the Ministry ‘Human teafickng is form of modem slavery where people profit from the contol and ‘exploitation of others. While slavery is thought to bea thing ofthe pas, human trafficking stil exists today throughout the United States and around the world. Trafickers use fore, fraud, or ‘coercion to contro other people forthe purpose of engaging in commercial sex .Trafickers use violence, threats, deception, and other disgusting tatis to trap vietims in horrific situations ‘every day in America, Al traficking vitims share one essential experience, the loss of freedom. In the United States, sex trafficking commonly occurs in online escort services, residential brothels, brothels disguised as massage businesses or spas, and in street prostitution, ‘There are two main futons that drive the spread of human trafficking: high profits and low tisk. Like drug and arms trafficking, human trafficking is criminal driven industry tat is ‘based on the principles of supply and demand. Every year, traffickers generate billions of dollars in revenue by vietimizing millions of people around the world, including herein the United States There ate many organizations working to combs this injustice, sully. it still continues to ‘grow. Even right herein n there are an estimated 2,400 minors forsale at any given time, mostly on the intemet (“Human trafficking a problem”, Earlier this year Governor Snyder signed legislation protecting Michigan residents from human trafficking and supporting vietims ‘by puting some of the strongest policies inthe nation int place. “It is unacceptable that «dangerous and appalling like human traficking continues tobe a prevalent problem across our state and nation," Snyder said, "Im extremely proud to sign this comprehensive bipartisan bill package, making: Michigan one of the leading states in fighting this tragic crime. This effort hholds criminals accountable while giving vietims the support they need to overcome these horrific experiences” (Gov. Snyder"), While progress is being male there i tll long way to 80. Solution ‘After reviewing the information I collected while writing this proposal and taking from ‘my own personal experiences, I feel partnership with other organizations that share similar goals will be the best way to not only continue your current efforts, but expand upon them and achieve future goals. When our church wanted help more people in our community we reached out to other organizations that had the same goals and mission. ‘The Pastor, I, and the board had a ‘meeting to discuss our options. Aer talking about our different options and committing the matter to prayer, partnering with other organizations seemed tobe the best solution. Once we made this decision we held a meeting with the res of the church members. At the meeting we discussed our heart to elp more people and that we felt getting similar organizations involved ‘would be the best way to make that happen. We then went over what we thought that would look ‘We knew we needed afew people willing to take the time to find out who the decision ‘makers of these organizations were and how to contact them. Once that information was determined we needed people to actually go and make that connection. Before we could move forward however, we were going te have to have information about out organization, out ‘mission, and our beliefs put on paper. Once all of the details were discussed we had those who ‘were interested in helping sign up for different tasks {tis very important when considering a parinership endeavor that you are cleat as to what the goals of your organization ae, what you hope to accomplish and how that will lok, the responsibilities your organization will up hold, as well as your expectations regarding their responsibilities, Another key element toa sucessful partnership is that you research the ‘organizations you want to partner with, When researching companies, you gain two important advantages First, you uncover problems. Different beliefs that may not be able to be worked around, or other groups they may have worked with and those outcomes. Second, you come to the table witha good understanding oftheir organization, Who they are, what they stand for, and ‘whether or not they would be a good fit with your organization, Getting similar organizations to partner with you to achieve future goals is only the beginning. You will also want to get local business involved. Ihave found many are willing to setup boxes to collect coats, has, and gloves for needy families, give coupons that will donate a cortain porcontago of the purchase back to an organintion or enuse, even down to heving local businesses hang flyers in their windows or hand them out in grocery bags to promote an event or ‘cause you're working on is very beneficial. Many business owners as well as cooperation’s ate willing to get involved. Tt puts their shoppers in an “others first” mindset. When people see their ‘business giving back it not only builds their companies reputation, but it will cause their shoppers to want to get involved, it brings new people through the door of ther business, There could be people who are supporters ofa specific organization who may have never even heard of ther business, let alone shop there, ‘When our church decided to partner with other churches and businesses in the area we \were able fo reach our goal oFhelping more families inthe community. The first year we worked with churches to supply food and gifts boxes for needy families we were able to more than double the amount of help we were able to provide in previous years. When One Voice Partnered with churches in our local area the amount of people who showed up and learned about the injustices of humnan trafficking and gave to fight against it was amazing and I personally feel ‘could not have been achieved on their own. IFEve's Angels would partner with organizations ‘within their community I have no doubt that they would be able to reach more women, make heir vision of starting a strect ministry, andl opening « home for trafficked survivors a reality "Two ave beter tha one, because they ave a goud reward for their labor. Kori they fll, the ‘one will ft up his fellow: but woe to him that is alone when he fle; for he hath not another to help him up” (King James Bible, Eccl. 4, 9-10"). Conclusions ‘Working with your organization, ona personal level, an discussing with Marissa the future gonls and reasons they cannot be implemented indicate a need for charge within, While your organization dors reach and help many women there are still so many more in need. Eve's ‘Angels has the heart and motivation to combat trafficking at full foree. However its very clear that this isnot a challenge that canbe taken on alone. I think partnership is an excellent way for [Eye's Angels to continue fo combat human trafficking in Grand Rapids as well as, around the ‘world, It would also be a great way to make life long connections and to get the church, as 8 whole, involved. I too believe that human trafficking is definitely a church issue, If Christ were here today he would be working diligently to stop ths injustice and set the eaptives free! 1 think partnership should prayerfully be considered. I would love to share more about this with your organization and not only implementa plan that works best for your needs, but bea part of this exciting step forward, You can contact me via email sarahhidey25@gmail.com or phone (2314687919, look forward to further discussing this with you. t wa AY At Human trafficking isthe third largest international exime industry, besides illegal deugs-d arms \wafficking. With revenue generating profits of $32 billion, every year, it's no wonder this injustice continues to spread across every country, as well as every state in the United States ‘Most trafficking survivors ate left to hope fora bed ata shelter which does not focus on victims ‘of human trafficking: a homeless shelter, a domestic violence shelter, ora run-away youth shelter. There are only 2,173 beds for human trafficking survivors across the country, while it's estimated that there are 20-30 million slaves in the world today. Human trafficking is an evasive activity hidden by secrecy and deception, many people are unaware that itis happening right here in Michigan, Thelieve if Eve's Angels would partner with other local agencies, whether their main focus is human trafficking, or not it would greatly benefit the organization, the community, and of course, those who have been vietimized, or area isk. Partnering with other organizations ‘would further their current efforts and expand beyond them. The facts below will hopefully help ‘your organization see the benefits and importance of partnership.
