Child: Benny

Observer: Laci Phillips

Date: 10/09/14

Setting: Infant Center 11:00am. Six babies outside in the play area, two teachers and myself.

Observation: There are four push cars lined up along the wall, facing the parking lot. Benny
walks up to the push cars and turns one around, so it is not facing the parking lot. She begins to
push it. She pushes the car into the glass doors to the classroom, and then walks away. She is
walking up to the other cars lined up against the wall. She looks at the cars and then walks up to
the sand table. She grabs a rubber orange octopus from the sand and puts it in her mouth. She
takes it out of he mouth and looks at it. She throws it into the sand table and walks away. A
teacher grabs the octopus out of the sand table and puts it into her pocket to be sanitized. Benny
sits down on the cement next to the sand table, next to another child. She is starting to grab the
childs shirt. Benny stands up and grabs a green cup out of the sand table. She is walking
towards the teacher. Benny smiles at the teacher, throws the cup on the ground, and walks over
toward a beach ball that is in the grass. She picks up the beach ball and throws it in front of her
with two hands. She follows the ball. She then lays on the ball on her stomach. She rolls over
into the grass. She gets up, grabs it with both hands and throws it again. It goes backwards over
her head. Teacher #1 says, Benny, where did it go? Benny looks in front of her, turns around
and looks behind her. Teacher #1 responds, There it is!
