Introduction

For this portfolio I have included three assignments; my objective synthesis, movie
synthesis and critical reflection essay, and various summaries I have written. These three essays
highlight my progress throughout this course. Writing an objective synthesis is a lengthy and
difficult task. First I had to become well researched on a topic, and then present all the
information without letting the audience hear my own voice on the subject. Being objective is a
difficult task, especially when you are quite passionate about the subject matter. In my critical
reflection essay, I looked at how well I did on my objective synthesis. I examined at length my
thought processes, my strengths and my weaknesses. This greatly helped me cement my
understanding of my own strengths as a writer, and In the future I will be able to improve even
more. The next written work I decided to include was my movie synthesis. In this essay, I was
required to think critically about other sources and viewpoints and come to my own conclusion
on a subject. The three sources we dealt with held vastly different stances. Lastly I have decided
to include five summary articles that I wrote for my biology class. Summarization is an
important tool, which helps people communicate and saves time. Through these assignments you
can see that I am a capable writer.
