Real numbers: numbers that can be writing in decimal notation including indefinite decimal expansions.

E.g. Integers (positive and negative) fractions, rational and irrational (Non repeating decimal expansions)
numbers e.g. root 2, and Pi
Intervals: subsets of real numbers
o

Closed intervals = A<= x <=B Includes end points. (E.g. X is greater than or equal to A,
but less than or equal to be B)

Open interval = A < x< B Excludes end points. (E.g. X is greater than A, but less than B

Half open sets = includes one end point (E.g. X is greater than or equal to A, but less
than B). (X is greater than A, but less than or equal to be B)

Operations: 5 major operations on real numbers are addition, subtraction, division, multiplication
and exponentiation (raising to the power).
Order of operation: BODMAS
