DUKE OF CAMBRIDGE STREAKS AHEAD OF

QUEEN, WIFE KATE AND EVEN DIANA

Prince William has become the most popular royal in recent history, according to a
new poll. It suggests a desire, particularly among younger people, for the House of
Windsor to skip a generation, with the Queen being followed by her grandson
rather than her son and heir, Prince Charles.
William was rated the most popular royal by 62 per cent of respondents, the Queen by
48 and Prince Harry by 36. William's wife, Kate, was rated fourth with 23 per cent.
The Duchess of Cornwall scored just two per cent, second from bottom after Prince
Edward who was rated by just one per cent of those quizzed. Princess Diana's
highest score over the past 30 years was 47 per cent.

EARLY LIFE
Prince William, the first child of the Prince and Princess of Wales, was born at St
Marys Hospital, London, on 21 June 1982. He was the first royal member
born in a hospital. A week later on 28 June his name was announced by
Buckingham Palace: William Arthur Philip Louis.

At age seven, William reportedly told his mother that he desired to be a police
officer when he was older so that he might be able to protect her; a statement
to which his brother responded: "Oh, no you can't. You've got to be King.
William was affectionately called Wombat" by his parents.
At his mother's funeral, William accompanied his father, brother, paternal
grandfather and maternal uncle in walking behind the funeral cortge from
Buckingham Palace to Westminster Abbey, even if it was very difficult for him
and his brother.

EDUCATION AND CAREER

William was educated at independent schools, starting at Jane Mynors' nursery school
and the pre-preparatory Wetherby School, both in London.
At Ludgrove he also participated in footballalong with swimming, basketball, clay
pigeon shooting, and cross country running.
By 2001, William was back in the United Kingdom and had enrolled, under the name
William Wales,at the University of St Andrews. News of this caused a temporary
increase in the number of applications to St Andrews, mostly from young women
who wanted an opportunity to meet him.
Having decided to follow a military career, in October 2005 William attended the fourday Regula Commissions Board at Westbury in Wiltshire where he underwent
selection to judge his suitability to become an army officer. Having passed
selection, William went up to the Royal Military Academy Sandhurts in January
2006.
In January 2009, William transferred his commission to the RAF and was promoted
to Flight Lieutenant.
In 2014, it was announced that the Duke would take on a full-time role as a pilot with
the East Anglian Air Ambulance, based at Cambridge Airport.
