What's the difference?

A strange question in itself given the ways

difference can be used. The word difference can be used to show that
something is not the same as another thing or not the same as something
similar. It also can mean a way in which people are not similar. Difference
can also be used to describe the remainder when a smaller sum is
subtracted from another.
City road has seen many differences over the years. One of the major
differences is, as LLoyd Robson recalls, "When I was a kid the street was
lined with car showrooms". These have sadly closed and they have been
replaced by food outlets.
Inequality: The definition of inequality is where something is not equal.
Where, for example, there is a difference in size or of social inequality
where circumstances mean that some people are wealthier, healthier or
more happy than others. Adam Smith, an 18th century Scottish
philosopher, said Wherever there is great property, there is great
inequality. (Smith. 1776). All through our society's history we have many
examples of where inequality separated people through social, racial,
religious or economic divergence.
One way on City Road inequality can be seen is in the way in which people
do not patronise the Mackintosh Centre. The buildings give the impression
of the home of a wealthy landowning family. The building's appearance
may be instrumental in making local people feel they would be out of
place. there.
