Annotated Bibliography
Bial, Raymond. Rescuing Rover: Saving America's Dogs. Boston: Houghton Mifflin, 2011. Print.
This book is important in my research because it has chapters with information about
animal welfare organizations and shelters. The book starts of by telling us stories about pets that
have been abused or abandoned. Then the book moved on to give us information about
organizations such as the ASPCA and The Humane Society of the United States. Next Bials
book tells us about the goals of different types of animal shelters. This book emphasizes on what
these organizations can do for these dogs. Biass book will help me in my research because it
will help me explain the different types of animal shelters/ sanctuaries and what they do to help
the community.
Owen, Marna. Animal Rights: Noble Cause of Needless Effort? Minneapolis: Twenty-First
Century, 2010. Print
Owens book is important to my research because it focuses on what rights animals have,
and even if we have the right to keep animals as pets. The book starts of by telling us about the
history of animal rights and the modern thought. Then it moves on to animals being used to
experiments. This book has a lot of information about what is considered ethical when it
comes to animals. The chapters I will most likely be using in my research are Animals as
Entertainers and Animals and Industry. I chose these two chapters because they are more
related to my research topic than the others.
