Quizzes
Throughout the semester, youll receive 5 quizzes worth 20 points each. Quizzes will be
based on the reading and in-class lecture material. Youll be notified of quiz dates 2-3 class
periods prior to a quiz.

Homework/Participation
For each speech (Informative, Policy, Invitational, and Commemorative) you will be asked to
provide audience feedback to one speaker as class participation. Each listening sheet will be
worth 20 points (total 60 points). In addition, youll be given the opportunity to earn 40 points
through participation in class activities, research assignments, and/or online discussions.

SafeAssign
For the Informative, Policy, Invitational, and Commemorative speeches, you will be required
to upload a copy of a typed complete-sentence outline, including a works cited page to
SafeAssign. For each type of speech, we will have a couple class periods of speeches. You
must upload your outline to SafeAssign (with your name removed) by midnight the night
before the first day of speeches. Students who do not submit their assignments to
SafeAssign on time will receive a zero on their assignment until the matching document is
submitted successfully.

Extra Credit
You can earn 10 points extra credit by attending a speech and writing a 1-page critique of
the speaker. You must also turn in a flyer/pamphlet/bill OR a picture of the audience prior to
or after the speech (you may e-mail me the photo). A full 10 points will be given to critiques
that include flyer/picture, include an introduction and conclusion, are written in complete
sentences, and make 3-5 critiques that are well-supported and include analysis.
