Duncan Place Resource Centre
Committee notes:
1) The decision to close Duncan Place Resource Centre in September 2014 at short notice
for safety reasons.
2) The decision by Education, Children and Families Committee on 9 December 2014 to
approve the immediate demolition of Duncan Place Resource Centre as a result of safety
concerns due to the poor condition of the building;
3) The users of the Centre included numerous community groups, Edinburgh College
students and teaching staff, Leith Primary School children and teachers attending gym
classes and Leith Primary School nursery pupils and teachers;
4) The lack of sufficient investment in building maintenance and repair over many years
despite warnings in the form of professional surveys and reports to Committee;
Committee therefore agrees:
a) To carry out an investigation into how the building condition was allowed to deteriorate to
such an extent that it was considered unsafe;
b) To ensure procedures are put in place so that this does not happen again;
c) To ensure that there are no other buildings in the Council Estate that pose a similar risk.
