Internship Responsibilities/ Internship Location and Information

This semester I interned at the Child Development Lab at McPhaul. The supervisor was Dr. Amy Kay. It
is located on the University of Georgias campus at 202 Carlton Street Athens, Georgia 30601. The website to
find more information is http://www.fcs.uga.edu/hdfs/research-child-development-lab/1.The office phone
number to reach Dr. Kay is 706-542-4929. My other supervisor was Lori Helman. Her contact information is
678-770-3540 and lorihelman@gmail.com.
I work alongside lead teacher Lori Helman of the older toddler classroom in which I have developed
great relationships with the children in the classroom! I performed a variety of tasks while completing my
internship. I aided in the making of lesson plans for developmentally appropriate activities for the children. I
conducted classroom presentations to students with lead teachers present, incorporating stimulating games and
activities for the group. I was able to experience hands on experience working with children. I helped out in any
way possible including helping with mealtime, naptime, cleaning up the classroom, and keeping the
environment clean and safe for the children. I was able to apply developmental and human theory that I have
learned in my previous human development courses. I was able to see first hand how different play activities
incorporate learning for children. This assisted me in my job search of showing me that I would not work in a
preschool environment. Although I value the experience of working with children, I have come to the
realization that this is not the correct work environment for me. I was able to learn a lot about crisis
management and problem solving. I am now prepared to work fast on my feet, and I have learned the
importance of being punctual and mindful. It has prepared me to wake up early and deal with difficult
situations. I have learned to put up with people that have clashing personalities, and I have learned to be very
specific in finding a right career path for myself.
Im glad that I was able to have this experience, because I was able to learn about responsibility,
punctuality, and how much it means to be a part of a team. I learned about working as a team with the other

teachers, and this helped me prepare for after graduation. I am so nervous about graduating, so I am glad that I
have some kind of work and intern experience.
