AlgernonHerbert(12July179211June1855)wasanEnglishantiquary.[1]

Biography
HerbertwasthesixthandyoungestsonofHenryHerbert,1stEarlofCarnarvonbyElizabethAliciaMaria,
elderdaughterofCharlesWyndham,2ndEarlofEgremont.HewaseducatedatEtonfrom1805onwards,
andprogressedtoChristChurch,Oxford,wherehematriculatedon23October1810.Hewentontostudy
atExeterCollege,andgraduatedB.A.in1813andM.A.in1825.HewaselectedafellowofMerton
Collegein1814becamesubwardenin1826,anddeanin1828.[1]
On27November1818hewascalledtothebarattheInnerTemple.Herbertwastheauthorofsome
remarkableworksrepletewithabstruselearning.Theyare,however,discursive,andhisargumentsare
inconclusive.[1]
Hemarried,on2August1830,Marianne,sixthdaughterofThomasLempriereofLaMotte,Jerseyshe
diedon7August1870.Theyhadoneson,SirRobertGeorgeWyndhamHerbert,andtwodaughters.
HerbertdiedatIckleton,Cambridgeshire.[1]
