Citizenship in America

(Old Piece of Writing)

Citizenship is the status of a citizen, with its rights and duties. Most of our rights
are stated in the Bill of Rights and the amendments to those rights. Our duty as a United
States citizen is to live by these rights. We have to know, protect, and pass on these
rights. It is our responsibility as citizens to be law-abiding members of society.
We as Catholics are also governed by our faith. We have to keep our priorities
straight by putting God first, and live as best we can by following the Ten
Commandments. If we keep our priorities straight it will be easier to be a good citizen.
Part of being a good citizen is taking care of our elders, because they have passed down
the values of being an American citizen to us. Like them, we must continue to build on,
and pass on this value system.
Historically every great country has had a very strong military. To be a good
citizen we have to support our countrys military. We have to support the decisions of our
government leaders in regards to the U.S. military. As a citizen of the United States we
must separate our religious and political beliefs. A good citizen should try to make their
political decisions based on education and research, not faith alone. Our government has
to pass and enforce laws that protect our citizens, and the children of this great nation.
For the most part our country has had a common goal, freedom. We have to
make sure future generations have the same or similar goal in mind. As citizens we
should not take advantage of our freedom, but we should support and protect it. We have
to take care of our personal freedoms that make up the American culture.

As citizens we have to blend our different cultures and beliefs in to one common
value system. In our value system we can all become citizens of the United States, and
live with one another in peace. We have to live by the freedoms our Founding Fathers
fought and died for. In conclusion I think its obvious that being an American citizen is a
very special privilege. I believe that citizenship in America is about faith, family values,
supporting the government, and our freedoms, as well as our value system.
