Dear Sir:
Please be advised that I will submit the following INQUIRY at the meeting of City
Council on Monday, December 15, 2014.
Re: Regulations regarding transporting dogs in truck beds
WHEREAS the City of Saskatoon has recently altered its animal control bylaw to
regulate how dogs can be transported in truck beds; and
WHEREAS transporting dogs unrestrained in truck beds is considered animal cruelty by
many Canadian SPCAs and the Canadian Veterinary Association; and
WHEREAS the City of Reginas current animal control bylaw that does not address this
issue,
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Administration undertake discussions with
our service provider, the Regina Humane Society, to investigate a change to our animal
control bylaw that would regulate how dogs can be transported in truck beds.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a report regarding the recommended course of action
with respect to bylaw changes be provided to the Community and Protective Services
Committee in the first quarter of 2015.
