Northern Vietnam fighting tactics

in tunnels
by Caleb Crawford

. Digging of the Vietnamese tunnels

began in1940 under the south
Vietnam jungle.
. Usually dug by hand and only short
distances at a time. tunnels increased
as presence of U.S. troops supporting
south Vietnam.
In the peak of the war the Viet Kong
soldiers had over 250 kilometers
155.34 miles of tunnels dug . From
the outskirts of Saigon to Cambodian.
Some of these tunnels held music halls
and theaters and ordnance factories.

Viet Kong troops used these

underground tunnels to hide out or
surprise militarily well endowed
enemy troops. Of the U.S. and south
Vietnam.
They used trip wire d grenades, or
boxes of scorpions and venomous
snakes that would fall onto enemy
soldiers. Punji stake traps were also
widely used.
The Vietnams would hid in these
tunnels during bombing runs.
Whole community could hide and
live for months underground.
Viet Kong would use small trap doors
to jump out of and shoot passing by
soldiers.
