Students will be able to classify the 3 different states of matter
and the heating/cooling process of each state. In this lesson,
students will break up into groups of 3 and discuss the three
states of matter. Each student in the group will be assigned a
different state and will have to explain it to the rest of the group.
After each student takes notes on their state they will combine
and demonstrate the different states of matter by creating a
movie.
1. P.CM.E.1 Changes in State- Matter can be changed from
one state (liquid, solid, gas) to another and then back again.
Heating and cooling may cause changes in state. *
2. P.CM.04.11 Explain how matter can change from one
state (liquid, solid, gas) to another by heating and
cooling.
Students will be able to recognize the difference between
a Sold, Liquid, and Gas.
Students will be able to know the heating and cooling
process of each state.
Students will be able to demonstrate the states of matter
using Movie Maker
Computer with Movie Maker software
Computer with Movie Maker software
1. Teacher will explain the different states of matter: Solid,
Liquid, Gas.
2. Teacher will break students up into groups of 3 and will
be assigned different states to teach to their peers.
(Jigsaw)
3. Teacher will then assign students to a computer, and
explain the 3 states of matter.
4. Students will give an example of each state, and explain
what will happen if each state was in a heating or cooling
process.
5. After the students finish each of their parts, class will go
to a computer lab to create a movie with their assigned
group.
6. Teacher will demonstrate how to create a movie that is
60 seconds long.
Students will be assessed on:
1. Knowing the difference states of matter: Solid, Liquid, and
Gas.

2. Knowing the heating and cooling process of each state.

3. Their ability to create a movie 60 seconds long based on
the three states of matter
