Experiment on Electric Conductivity

I. Objectives
- To be able to understand the principles of electric conductivity and compare the degree
of conductivity of different materials.
II. Materials
1. 3-inches flatcord, g 16 + 1 incandescent bulb (25 W)
2. 1 pc. Receptacle 2x2
3. 1 pc. Plug
4. Assorted conducting & non-conducting materials.
- 2 bottles of purified water

- 1 pack rock salt

- 1 bottle distilled water

- 1 sachet plain coffee

- 1 bottle mineral water

- 1 sachet 3 in 1 coffee mix

- 1 coke solo

- 8 pcs. Styro cup

- 1 pouch fish sauce, soy sauce, vinegar

III. Procedure
1. Different solution of brine, coffee mix, softdrinks & other aqueous solution are put in a
styro cup.
2. For each solution (experiment is done one at a time) electric conductivity is measured
by means of the intensity of light emitted by the incandescent bulb through a 220V-AC
source.

V. Conclusion
Base on what Ive observed, the purified are insulators because it is purely clean
water and those kind of waters are not conductors, same as the distilled water. The
drinking fountain is not a good conductor but still a conductor because it has minerals
which are considered as conductors, same as the mineral water. The water with salt and
coffee are great conductors since it is not purely clean and there are solid substances that
are considered as conductors. Soy sauce, vinegar, fish sauce are also great conductors
because they all have salt.
